About CII in shipping CII aims to address the carbon intensity of ships sent for international shipping. IMO has set specific carbon intensity targets, where commercial vessels are tracked to record a decline in carbon emissions over a set period. Vessels are given time to achieve these targets in different phases. CII helps in promoting a gradual reduction in carbon emissions. This annual assessment helps in grading the efficiency of ships for carbon reduction in terms of 'A, B, C, D, and E.'
